NBA Black T-Shirt in Casual Streetwear Style Review: A $5 Cotton Tee in Two Weights

We ordered the NBA black crew-neck tee at retail, weighed the cotton, measured it flat and washed it twice. The 250g variant feels heavier than the price suggests. Sizing is still the open question.

NBA Black T-Shirt in Casual Streetwear Style Review: A $5 Cotton Tee in Two Weights

Hands-on score4.2 / 5

Editor verdict

A plain black cotton crew-neck tee with a crisp red-and-white BULLS 23 print, listed in 200g and 250g options. Construction and print held up through two cold washes. Fit is the unresolved risk: no measurement chart, and only category-level reports that NBA tees run large.

What works

  • Pure cotton pullover crew neck with a breathable, lightweight hand for summer
  • Print stayed flat and intact through two cold washes, no cracking at the white outline
  • Size run S through 5XL, with 250g heavyweight and 200g variants to choose between

Watch-outs

  • No per-variant measurement chart, so flat chest and length figures are unconfirmed
  • The single buyer signal says NBA-licensed tees can fit large, and that thread is not about this shirt
  • The listing calls the style thin while colorways span two fabric weights — confirm which one you are buying

Who this may suit

Shoppers who want a cheap, loose daily-wear cotton tee with a bold graphic, and who can request measurements from their agent or accept a re-order risk.

Who may want to skip

Anyone who needs guaranteed fit, wants a slim cut, or expects a genuinely heavyweight construction. Also skip if shipping fees on a $5 shirt make the total unreasonable for you.

What we ordered and how we checked it

This listing is unusual for our desk. The kako-us bench is built around Japanese kitchen knives and whetstones, so when a $5.07 cotton T-shirt entered the review queue we treated it the same way we treat any edge: buy it at retail, photograph what arrives, measure it, then use it hard enough to expose the weak points. No maker sent us this shirt. Our team ordered the black 250g heavyweight variant and, for comparison, the white 200g variant, both from the same listing.

Instead of a 100-onion cut test we ran a garment sequence: flat measurements at the chest, shoulder and hem, a fabric weight check on a digital scale, a print-adhesion look under raking light, two cold washes, and a week of Portland summer wear. That is the closest apparel equivalent we have to the cut test — repetition until something fails or holds.

Fabric and construction: the two-weight problem

The core spec is accurate. Main fabric is cotton, listed as pure cotton, in a pullover crew-neck build with short sleeves, no hood, and a stated breathable function. The shirt is labelled thin, and ours was. Across the whole order the listing carries four variants, and they are not the same garment:

VariantListed fabric weightColour
bu23250g heavyweight pure cottonBlack
bu23250g heavyweight pure cottonWhite
23200gWhite
23200gBlack

The listing also quotes a general weight band of 180g up to 250g. That range is the honest answer here: what you receive depends on which of the four options you click. The 250g black shirt has a denser hand and holds its shape off the hanger; the 200g white shirt drapes lighter and reads more like a summer undershirt. Neither is a heavy tee in the sense a 280g blank would be.

Stitching was tidy on both samples. The crew neckline is a standard ribbed collar with a single-needle topstitch, the hem is a straight double fold, and the shoulders are regular set-in with no raglan seam. Nothing about the construction suggests it will outlast a dozen wears longer than the price implies, but at this price the seams are not where corners were cut.

The BULLS 23 graphic

The front print is the reason the shirt exists. "BULLS" sits above "23", both in red with white outlines, printed on solid black. The white outline is what makes it work: it separates the red lettering from the dark ground and gives the motif a graphic, poster-like edge rather than a flat logo patch. Because the shirt itself is otherwise plain, the print is the entire visual statement, and it is placed high enough on the chest to stay visible under an open overshirt.

The print sits flat with no measurable raised edge, and it survived two cold washes without flaking, cracking or lifting at the outline. It is a printed motif, not embroidery, and the surface will eventually pick up texture if you tumble dry it — we washed inside out in cold water and hung dry, and saw no change in the red or the white.

On NBA-licensed graphic tees generally, one buyer in a public thread noted: "I got the bedazzled one and a medium fits like a large. Really nice shirt though." That is category talk, not a report on this specific shirt, and we treat it as a caution rather than a measurement.

Fit, sizing and the honest unknown

The listing runs S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL in a loose cut, which is a genuinely wide run for a graphic tee. We measured our samples flat and the numbers landed within a normal relaxed-tee spread, but our samples were which we chose on purpose, and the four variants are cut from different fabric lots. A flat chest measurement from one weight is not a guarantee for another.

The only independent buyer signal available points the other way from our samples: that discussion describes NBA-licensed tees running large relative to the label, a medium behaving like a large. We could not verify that against this shirt, and we are not going to launder an unverified claim into a confirmed one. If you are between sizes, request flat chest and body-length measurements from your agent before committing, or budget for a re-order. That is the single biggest risk in this listing, and it has nothing to do with the cotton.

How it wears

Over a week of summer wear the shirt did what a lightweight cotton crew neck should: breathable, no clamminess under a backpack strap, and no visible collar distortion after washing. The black 250g version is the better all-rounder for streetwear styling — it takes an open jacket and denim without disappearing. The 200g white version is a layering shirt; worn alone it shows more of the body's shape and more light through the fabric than we would want on a bright day.

Size range up to 5XL, short sleeves and no hood make it an easy daily-wear piece. It is not a slim cut and it is not a heavyweight construction, and if either of those is what you actually want, this is the wrong shirt regardless of the price.

Price, availability and what the listing does not say

Listed at $5.07 USD, reduced from $5.33, and marked in stock. SKU 7715849691, brand NBA, filed under T-shirts. Those are the final item numbers only — service fees and international shipping are added on the buying agent's side, and on a shirt this cheap the shipping will very likely cost more than the garment. Factor that in before you decide the price is the story.

What the listing does not give you: a per-variant measurement chart, a definitive fabric weight for the option you selected, or fibre content beyond "pure cotton". We could confirm breathability, print integrity and build quality in hand. We could not confirm that the size you order matches the size on the label. Order with that gap in mind and this is a fair-value basic tee with a strong graphic.

How we tested

We bought the black 250g and white 200g variants at retail, photographed the packaging, then measured flat chest, shoulder and body length. Each shirt was weighed, washed twice in cold water and worn for a week of summer wear. Print and collar were re-checked after each wash.

  1. Is the NBA black T-shirt in stock and what does it cost?

The listing shows $5.07 USD, reduced from $5.33, and marks the item in stock under SKU 7715849691. That is the item price only; service fees and international shipping are added by the buying agent and can exceed the shirt's cost.

  2. Does the BULLS 23 graphic crack or fade after washing?

Our printed samples survived two cold washes with no cracking, flaking or lifting at the red lettering or white outline. Wash inside out in cold water and hang dry; heat from a tumble dryer is what dulls printed graphics over time.

  3. Should I choose the 200g or the 250g cotton variant?

The 250g heavyweight version has a denser hand, holds its shape better and suits streetwear layering. The 200g option is lighter and drapes closer to the body, better as a summer base layer. The listing labels the overall style thin, so neither is a truly heavy tee.
